I Scream, You Scream

Between June 30th and July 2nd I will be the proud owner of a brand spanking new Cuisinart ICE-21 Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker, in Turquoise!


Anyone else as excited as I am about this amazing development?  Probably not.

.... and I needed to get a cookbook to go with this, right?  I will also be receiving The Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz, so I will be all prepared to make some amazing ice cream.

  1. Nice! Homemade ice cream is definitely seasonally appropriate for summer! Growing up, we always made berry ice cream with the berries from our backyard. I'll try to hunt down the recipe and send it to you! I've heard about the David Lebovitz cookbook, too -- supposed to be the best.

  2. Awesome!!! I'd love the recipe. Yeah, it seems that everytime I've read something on homemade ice cream David Lebovitz's book has been mentioned, so I figured that was the one to go with. I can't wait!!!

  4. FRUITED ICE CREAM

    2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 c. light corn syrup
    1 TBS. vanilla extract
    2 c. whipping cream
    1 Qt. half and half
    6 c. fruit (I use fresh peaches, strawberries or raspberries)

    In a bowl combine:
    sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and stir well.

    Add whipping cream and half and half and continue stirring.

    Place 2 c. fruit in a blender at a time and add enough of the sugar/cream mixture so it covers the fruit. Blend on high speed about 30 seconds or until smooth. Repeat until finished. Pour into the metal ice cream container and chill in freezer department of the refrigerator for 1 hour. Then place the container into the ice creamer maker and churn until ready

    This recipe is from 1981. My mom clipped it out of the local newspaper, and she still has the original clipping. She was definitely frightened that she's been using the same recipe for 30 years! I always added extra vanilla. Because ice cream maker technology has progressed since this recipe was written, I don't think you need to chill the ice cream before churning. I also don't think refrigerators come with "freezer departments" anymore!

  5. Yummmmmm... sounds awesome and super fruity! I think it's the sign of an amazing recipe if you've been using the same one for that long- I guess whoever developed it and got it put in the paper knew their stuff!

    My ice cream maker makes up to 1 1/2 quarts so I'll have to scale the recipe back a bit.... or make it in a couple of batches! For my machine you actually do still have to chill the ice cream, but some of the fancy-schmancy ones who can put straight in I assume. Also, I think I will start referring to my freezer as the "freezer compartment", and the refrigerator as the "ice box".
